Toots the Train

 Expert Review

Review:

Children tell Toot the Train whether to stop or go by giving their commands through a voice-activated microphone. The child can alos decide which destination to send the train (to the station, the farm, the tunnel or the loader) by the push of one of the microphone's buttons. The train responds with phrases ("Ready when you are', "Let's load the hay"), sound effects, music and movement. There are activities to perform at each stop. A button on the engine provides other phrases and musical tunes when pushed. Fine motors skills are stimulated by the manipulation of the different buttons and track activities. Involves imagination and concentration while stimulating initiative and decision-making. Encourages self-expression and interaction when playing with others. Requires 4 "AA" alkaline batteries for the train and 3 "AAA" alkaline batteries for the controller (not included).

Product Description:

All aboard! Here's a toy that's bound to grab--and hold--the attention of toddlers who will love giving this train orders and having it respond in both words and actions. Toots puts kids in the conductor's seat, allowing them to tell this whimsical train when to stop and go, and which of the four destinations around the track to visit. The voice-activated microphone responds to stop and go commands and has four buttons to push that tell the train exactly where to stop--station, farm, tunnel, or loader. And around the track there are activities to perform, like blasting the boulders from the tunnel or loading the animals or hay bales into the train. All throughout the ride, Toots pipes in with an enthusiastic voice, letting the conductor know exactly what the plan is ("Ready when you are," "Let's load the hay," "There's lots to do at the farm"). Pushing a button on the engine results in a multitude of other phrases or the playing of three different tunes, so kids won't get easily bored. Two slight drawbacks to Toots: He doesn't stop when he hits something placed on the track, contrary to what the directions say, and the sound quality is a bit scratchy. These factors are minor, however, and will in no way undermine the fun that toddlers will have with this toy. Toots requires three AAA batteries and two AA batteries for operation (not included). --Jane Snyder

My 5 year old son still plays with this train everyday! It does not have one single problem as mentioned in the other reviews - it works exactly as it is supposed to. You talk into the microphone and tell it when to stop & when to go - you can push the buttons to choose which destination you want it to go. It will stop there and say "arriving at the farm!". When it comes off the track - it says "uh oh we're off the track".

Very cute - very durable - easy enough for my 2 year old to use!!

Best toy out there!!!

We've had the Toots The Train for several years. It was first purchased for my son who is now 10. He was not into trains and only played with it a couple of times. It's been in storage for the past 8 years. I recently took it out of storage and set it up so that I could take some pictures and sell it. My 2 1/2 year old daughter came running into the room and she loves it! She's been playing with it all day and now I'm going to just go ahead and keep it since it's discontinued. My only complaints are that the train doesn't stay together and it does go off of the track often. Other than that it seems to be doing a great job of keeping my very active 2 year old busy and entertained.

We just bought our second train after our 18 month old son broke the first one by laying over it. We were all heartbroken since it kept him busy for hours. He loves to follow it around the track and watch the trains eyes blink. The only problem I had is the track is difficult to get apart.

I couldn't have brought anything better for my Grandsons' second Christmas. He was elated. He was so excited that he had to be calmed down. This was a little boys joy. Imagine seeing a toy priced at @ $... and being able to purchase it for less than 1/2 the price. For the joy that he received I would have paid anything for it. Thank you thank you thank you powers that be. If you're able to find this toy, it will be worth whatever price you pay.

I was so excited when I saw Toots the Train, it seemed perfect for my almost 2 year old. The only thing he wanted for Christmas was a choo choo. Well, you can imagine my extreme disappointment when at 12:00am Christmas day, my husband and I were putting the gifts together for our children, and I realized that wonderful Fisher Price had given me two of the same pieces of train track. Needless to say the train would not work. So my son's first Christmas when he actually knows what is going on will be a sad disappointment when he finds out that the only thing he wanted for Christmas was delivered BROKEN.
My heart is breaking at the thought of his sadness when we have to tell him in just a few hours that Toots does not work.
