Ever? Or are people just not putting it together correctly? Link to others in series?Toy Description Internal organs and skeleton pieces are put together to create a model shark. Kit includes 20 parts, display stand and pegs, and an instruction booklet. Play All the pieces snap and click together. Once finished, the toy is able to be displayed on any bookshelf, table, or dresser.  Observations The end result of this model is quite striking. The shark is realistic looking on one side, and the opposing view displays the internal workings through the clear cover. Swimming through the water, mouth open, teeth barred, the pose is dynamic and impressive. We found the pieces to fit together with enough ease that we would recommend for children around 9 or ten, or even a few years younger if their patience and fine motor skills are up to the challenge. With that said, there may be some occassions in which an adult is needed to help determine which direction a certain piece may need to be added, or just to help hold objects steady during assembly. We enjoy toys that provide opportunities for children to work with adults in the completion of a project. Learning cooperation, patience with others, and how to offer suggestions and solutions in a polite manner are all skills that can be improved when children work with others. Additionally, giving kids time to explain their knowledge and love of a subject, such as sharks, is a way for them to learn how to express their interests and gain confidence in their communication skills. It's also just an all around good way to bond. We have received reports of pieces not staying in place during construction, but we did not find this to be an issue. If desired, glue can be used during assembly to ensure that pieces never move out of place, but we strongly suggest making completely sure the pieces are in the correct alignment before using any glue.  The pegs are stable and hold the model in place so that the base can move around without much fear of it all falling to pieces. Parts and Pieces All required parts are included with this kit. Concerns This kit contains small pieces that could be easily swallowed by very young children. Models fall into a space somewhere between traditional toys and decorations. Putting the pieces together gives a sense of creative completion and personal success to the model, making each one an accomplishment rather than just a purchase. Tedco’s 4D Vision series include highly detailed and impressive looking models of a number of animals. We aren’t sure where the fourth dimension comes in, though. Users who expect a display model that may require some patience to put together will not be disappointed. It would be misleading to say that this model can be taken apart and put back together again multiple times. We found that putting it together once and leaving it on display is best, as trying to pull everything apart can damage the piece overtime. Usually, bath toys are fine on the outside, but toys that get lots of water inside them, like rubber duckies and squeaky toys, can grow mold on the inside. Cleaning them every two weeks or so can help prevent this. <img alt="" class="FloatLeft" src="/pics/AdobeStock_17750526.jpeg?Medium"> <h6>General Cleaning and Mold Prevention:</h6> Soap and water are fine for the outer surfaces that can be scrubbed, but those squeaky toys with a small hole in them need something a little stronger to get the places you can’t reach. First, scrub the toy’s outside with an old toothbrush or dish scrubber (potato scrubbers work great!), then make a cleaning solution with one of the methods below. Vinegar: Fill your bathroom sink (or large bowl) with water and add 1 cup white vinegar. If the toys are beginning to have a mildew smell, you can use straight white vinegar without any water. If you choose not to dilute the vinegar, we suggest wearing gloves as vinegar can irritate skin. Bleach: Mix ¼ teaspoon bleach to 1 quart cool water. If the toys are already growing mold, scroll down to see ways you can use that might let you save the toy. Hydrogen Peroxide: You can use Hydrogen Peroxide straight from the bottle without diluting it, but we found that using a 50/50 mix of Hydrogen Peroxide and water every two weeks works just fine, too. Suck up the cleaning solution into the toy several times, squeezing out as much as you can between each round. On the last round, let the solution sit inside the toy for a few minutes before squeezing out. Leave to dry someplace that has a breeze. A windowsill works great, but if that’s not an option, turn on the bathroom vent, or place the toys in front of a fan. Increased air circulation will help drying process, which will in turn help keep down the chance of mold. TIP: Bath toys can last longer if they are given chances to fully dry out. If possible, store bath toys in a hallway or someplace outside the bathroom. If there isn’t extra storage room, try keeping the toys in a mesh bag and hanging them up on a towel hook when not in sure. Storing them in a hallway or somewhere outside of the bathroom can help with this. <h6>Mold Removal:</h6> If you find that your squeaky bath toys start growing slime that can’t be gotten rid of, there may be a way to save them. Try cutting an X where the hole is so that you can fit a toothbrush into the toy. If scrubbing the inside of the toy still doesn’t get it fully clean, it may be time to retire that toy from bath time. Making it an outdoor toy gives kids the chance to play with it while hopefully decreasing the chance that anyone drinks the water from inside the toy. Glue can be put over the hole in squeaky toys to keep water from getting inside them in the first place. Use a hot glue gun, or some water-proof caulk and seal over the hole. Sometimes stuffed toys just need a good bath. Luckily, stuffed toys can easily be cleaned, so long as a few precautions are taken. <img align="" alt="" border="" hspace="" src="/Files/blog-images/TeddyTowelSoap.jpeg?Medium" title="" vspace=""> <h6>Washing Machine Method</h6> Toys stuffed with batting (not foam beads like a Beanie Baby) and toys made of cloth can be washed in the washing machine so long as the toy does not include any kind of electronic components. If a toy makes light, sound, or movement, it can only be spot-cleaned. Wash the toy on a gentle cycle using cold or warm (not hot) water. You can use your regular laundry soap, though we recommend using something made for sensitive skin and free of fragrance. Laundry detergents are fine for clothing, but the skin on the face is more sensitive. Many stuffed toys, especially the ones regularly taken to bed, tend to get a lot of face-time. Place the toy into a <a href="http://www.amazon.com/Lingerie-Laundry-Wash-Delicates-Garments/dp/B00XJZ0O0Y/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&linkCode=ll1&tag=toti08-20&linkId=ccdc41b8d2d3280e17bd17d10873d6c5" linktype="3" target="_blank">delicates bag</a>, a pillow protector, or a regular pillowcase before tossing into the wash. This will help to keep any parts from being ripped off. Pillowcases with zip-closures are great, but a regular pillowcase can be held closed with a twist-tie, a zip-tie, a rubber band, a hair-tie, or a simple knot. This is especially important when washing toys in a top-loading washer. Top-loading washing machines work by agitating the contents within. This motion can be rough on toys, especially ones that have floppy parts like long ears, tails, arms, or legs. Is it possible the toy will be fine if washed without being in a bag? Sure. But why take the chance that someone may lose an eye or limb? Dry the toy in the dryer on a medium setting, or high if the toy has no plastic parts. The toy has to dry completely in order to keep mold from growing inside the batting. If the toy feels damp at all, just send it through another round of drying. For toys with plastic parts, using a medium heat over a longer period of time is usually best. <h6>Spot-Cleaning Method</h6> Does the toy just need a little touching up? Maybe some juice got spilled on a paw, or a toy was dropped just on the edge of a mudpuddle. When washing the toy in a washing machine seems a little excessive, spot-cleaning can take care of small oopsies. Spot-cleaning stuffed toys requires only a clean rag, some soapy water, and old fashioned elbow grease. Start by making sure you have brushed off as much of any visible dirt as you can. Be gentle while doing this so you don’t end up grinding the dirt into the fabric. (Very light colored fabrics may best be cleaned in a washing machine because they are more prone to staining.) Mix a few drops of soap (hand soap or dish soap are both fine) in some warm or hot water. Use the rag and the soapy water to gently remove dirt and grime. When the toy seems clean, use a clean cloth and plain water to rinse away any soap. Squeeze out any excess water, then leave the toy to air dry, making sure it is not resting in any standing water. Hanging the toy up someplace like a clothes-line or a shower is a good option. <h6>Getting chewing gum out of fur</h6> Children sometimes chew on their stuffed toys. Children sometimes forget to take chewing gum out of their mouth before chewing on their stuffed toys. Chewing gum sometimes ends up stuck on stuffed toys. There’s a multitude of ways to get chewing gum off of fur and fabric, so we’ve come up with a list of the most popular methods: -Freezing. Putting the toy into the freezer and waiting a few hours until the gum has become solid allows the gum to be broken into small pieces that can be removed easier. You can also hold a few ice cubes to the gum. If the gum starts to get sticky and stretchy again, it’s thawing out. Refreeze it. Putting the toy straight into the freeze will also work. This may be the best method for any toy that cannot be washed. -Peanut Butter. Using a creamy style (not chunky) peanut butter, massage it into the gummed area, until the gum starts to break apart into small, round pieces. These little beads of gum can then be picked up carefully. Peanut butter can leave a stain on fabric, so make sure the toy can be washed before using this method. Of course, peanut butter works because of the oil in it, so really… -Oil. Just about any oil, such as olive oil, coconut oil, sesame oil, orange oil, or any other cooking oil can be used in the same way as the peanut butter. Just rub a small amount of the oil into the gum then pick the pieces out. Also just like the peanut butter, oils can leave a stain on fabrics, so make sure the toy can be washed before using this method.   Got a tip we could add here? Our diligently created grading score lets you know what we think of a toy at just a glance. Here’s a description of those scores to help you understand what they mean. Across the board, a 0 is the worst possible score, with 10 being perfect, and 5 being neutral. Neutral means the toy didn’t impress us in that category, nor did it have any problems. Sometimes, a toy will not be scored in a particular area. That’s because we won’t knock down a toy’s score just because it wasn’t intended to be used in a particular way. For instance, books aren’t all that great at helping a child develop their gross motor skills, but that doesn’t make books a bad gift. Our Overall score is like a cumulative total of how we feel about the toy in general. You can think of this score as measuring how likely we would be to recommend this toy to our family and friends. The Overall score is not an average of the other scores. If a toy really impresses us, we may give it a high Overall score even if it could be a little better in one of the other categories. Ever bought two of something because it’s so incredible you want a backup in case some unfortunate event happens to the first one? That is what can happen with our Overall score. We know the toy may not last a lifetime, but it’s just too great to pass up. The Replay score measures how desirable a toy is to children. We take into account things like how long children typically play with the toy, and whether or not they seek the toy out themselves or need adult coaxing to play with it. Toys get more points in this category if they are likely to be played with children of varying ages, meaning that a growing child will still enjoy it as they get a little older, or that siblings can play together. This only scores how likely children are to use this toy, not the toy’s quality. Quality measures all the materials and construction processes that go into making the toy. Do the stitches hold together? Does the toy break easily, or can it survive heavy use? Is this a toy that can be passed down from one sibling to another, or is it only really good for a few years? Will it last through one birthday party or longer?  If we think a toy is dangerous, cheaply made, or is just a huge waste of money, we’ll be sure to say so in either our Observations or Concerns sections of the review. We also score toys regarding how Cognitively challenging they are for children. Looking at how age appropriate these challenges are, how hard a child has to think in order to use the toy, and how much room a toy gives a child to think creatively, we come up with a number indicating just how much thinking a child is likely to engage in with this toy. Toys will high scores will be fun and challenging, while also helping a child learn new ways of problem-solving. Similar to the Cognitive score, our Motor score measure how many different ways a child’s coordination, body awareness, and reaction time. Some toys are meant for gross motor function, such as a ball, while others are good at helping fine motor skills, such as sewing. Either way, we give higher scores to toys that can help children develop physically. Toys that encourage children cooperating or having friendly competition get a higher Social score. Just like toys that help with Cognitive and Motor skills, Social toys teach children how to function as they grow into adults. These toys may help their communication skills, encourage sharing or negotiating, or even help children learn how to lose a game with grace. For some toys, having fun with others is more important than just winning. For our baby toys, we use a slightly different set of grading criteria. Instead of a Cognitive score, we measure how much Visual and Audio Stimulation a toy provides, as well as how likely a child is going to develop their understanding of Cause and Effect. We measure how much a toy Holds Interest for children instead of Replay, since a baby does not dig through a toy box the same way an older child will. Once a month or so, you may want to use a mild bleach solution to sanitize children’s toys, but really, skipping the bleach is unlikely to result in a catastrophic pandemic. We trust that you have done your own research and know what’s best for those in your life. Toys without Batteries: Mix a few drops of soap into warm or hot water. Hand soap and dish soap both work fine. Scrub away any visible debris, rinse, then let the toy dry. Let the toys soak if dried debris needs softening. TIP: If the toy fell into something stinky, adding white vinegar to the water will help eliminate odors. About a ½ cup of vinegar to a sink full of soapy water should do it. (Feel free to add more, so long as you’re comfortable with the smell of vinegar.) You can let the toy soak anywhere from 5-30 minutes. Toys with Batteries: If the toy has any electrical component, be sure to remove all batteries, and carefully wipe the toy down with a cloth or sponge. Keep a dry cloth handy, as any excess moisture getting inside the toy could potentially damage circuits, affecting the toy’s ability to produce light, sound, or other battery operated functions. Do not submerge this kind of toy into water. <h6>Cleaning with Alcohol and Water:</h6> This is a common method used by many of those who want to avoid using bleach on a regular basis. Be sure to do a spot test on toys that have painted areas, as alcohol is a pretty effective paint remover. Toys without Batteries: Clean off any visible debris. Make a 70/30 solution of rubbing alcohol and water in a spray bottle. Spray down toys, then let them sit for a minute. Rinse off, and let dry. Toys with Batteries: Clean off any visible debris. Remove all batteries or unplug toy. Using the 70/30 solution of rubbing alcohol and water, carefully wipe down toys making sure excess moisture does not reach the internal areas. Keep a dry cloth handy, as any excess moisture getting inside the toy could potentially damage circuits, affecting the toy’s ability to produce light, sound, or other battery operated functions. Do not submerge this kind of toy into water. <h6>Cleaning with Hydrogen Peroxide (H2O2):</h6> Steadily increasing in popularity, Hydrogen Peroxide is another cleaning method used by people wanting to avoid overusing bleach. Though not as likely to remove paint as alcohol, H2O2 may affect painted areas on toys. Do a tiny spot test if you aren’t sure how the paint will react, and use soap and water if it looks like it’ll be a problem. Toy without Batteries: Clean off any visible debris. Make a 50/50 solution of Hydrogen Peroxide and water. Place toys in a bowl, then fill the bowl with the 50/50 solution so that the toys are covered. Using the 50/50 solution of H2O2 and water, carefully wipe down toys making sure excess moisture does not reach the internal areas. Keep a dry cloth handy, as any excess moisture getting inside the toy could potentially damage circuits, affecting the toy’s ability to produce light, sound, or other battery operated functions. Do not submerge this kind of toy into water. <h6>Cleaning with Vinegar:</h6> Cheap and ecofriendly, vinegar has become another popular cleaning chemical. Vinegar’s acidity helps it kill some household germs, but its real benefit is its ability to help cut odors. This can be useful when a toy has been dropped into something stinky, or been in an area where cigarette smoke may have left a mild scent on the toy. In the case of strong cigarette odors, we recommend using an enzyme cleaner designed to combat stale smoke. Toys without Batteries: Clean off any visible debris. To soak toys, add about ½ cup white vinegar to a sink full of water. (Using cold water will help keep the smell of vinegar from wafting through the whole room.) Toys can soak anywhere from 5-30 minutes. Rinse, then let air dry. The vinegar smell will dissipate as the toy dries. To give toys a wipe down, just make a 50/50 mix of white vinegar and water (or just plain white vinegar if you don’t mind the smell) in a spray bottle. Spray down toys, let sit for a few minutes, then rinse off and let air dry. Toys with Batteries: Clean off any visible debris. Remove any batteries, and make sure toy is unplugged. Wipe down toys with a mix of at least 50/50 white vinegar and water. More vinegar can be used if desired. Make sure moisture does not get into the toy’s internal parts, as this can damage any electrical components. Do not submerge this kind of toy in water. <h6>Cleaning with a Baking Soda Scrub:</h6> Sometimes, oil and dirt can get really ground in. When this happens, baking soda’s abrasiveness can come to the rescue. Be gentle though, as this same abrasive action can take off thin layers of plastic, leaving discolored areas. Use a cloth, or better, an old toothbrush to scrub away smudges. Be careful on painted areas, as this could scrape the paint right off. Be. Gentle. Toys without Batteries: Make a paste of baking soda and liquid soap. A single drop of soap to a tablespoon of baking soda seems to work out okay. Using a cloth, an old toothbrush, or your finger, use the paste to scrub away smudges and streaks. Rub in small circles, making sure to start out gently until you know how the surface is going to respond. TIP: If it seems like paint is flaking off, run the area under warm water until most or all of the paste is rinsed away. Once it seems like most of it is gone, use a wet rag to wipe off the reminder, doing so gently. Toy with Batteries: Use the same method above, just be sure to mix the baking soda with water instead of liquid soap. Since electronic toys cannot be submerged in water, it may be difficult to rinse away the scrub in the case that paint starts to become damaged. If paint starts to fleck off during the scrubbing process, don’t try to rinse the toy! Instead, let the paste dry completely (this is why you use water, not soap), then gently flake it off. <h6>Sanitizing with Bleach:</h6> Bleach is highly effective, cheap, and a little bit goes a long ways. Please be sure not to exceed the amount needed. Additionally, bleach breaks down fairly quickly in water, so make up a new batch of bleach and water every time you need to use it. Toys without Batteries: Clean off all visible debris. To sanitize, mix ¼ teaspoon bleach with 1 quart of cold water (or 1 ½ teaspoon bleach to 1 gallon of cold water). Use this to soak toys for a few minutes, spritz from a spray bottle, or just wet a cloth and wipe toys down. Rinse, then let toys air dry. Toys with Batteries: Clean off any visible debris. Remove any batteries, and make sure toy is unplugged. Using a mix of ¼ teaspoon bleach to 1 quart cold water, wipe toy down. Bleach is extremely damaging to electronic components, so be especially careful if using bleach to clean any sort of electric or battery operated toy. Keep a dry cloth handy just in case the cleaner gets where it shouldn’t. Do not submerge this kind of toy in water. <h6>Cleaning with Wipes:</h6> Most toys can be wiped down with any store-bought disinfecting wipes. Just make sure that any paint will not be affected. Rinse or wipe off any chemical residue. <h6>Cleaning in the Washing Machine:</h6> Did you know that plastic toys can be tossed into the washing machine? Cool, right? Place the toys into a delicate’s bag, and wash on cold or warm (hot may melt thinner plastic or destroy paint), using a small amount of detergent. Toy Description Internal organs and skeleton pieces are put together to create a model shark. Kit includes 20 parts, display stand and pegs, and an instruction booklet. The shark is realistic looking on one side, and the opposing view displays the internal workings through the clear cover. Swimming through the water, mouth open, teeth barred, the pose is dynamic and impressive. We found the pieces to fit together with enough ease that we would recommend for children around 9 or ten, or even a few years younger if their patience and fine motor skills are up to the challenge. With that said, there may be some occassions in which an adult is needed to help determine which direction a certain piece may need to be added, or just to help hold objects steady during assembly. We enjoy toys that provide opportunities for children to work with adults in the completion of a project. Learning cooperation, patience with others, and how to offer suggestions and solutions in a polite manner are all skills that can be improved when children work with others. Additionally, giving kids time to explain their knowledge and love of a subject, such as sharks, is a way for them to learn how to express their interests and gain confidence in their communication skills. It's also just an all around good way to bond. We have received reports of pieces not staying in place during construction, but we did not find this to be an issue. If desired, glue can be used during assembly to ensure that pieces never move out of place, but we strongly suggest making completely sure the pieces are in the correct alignment before using any glue.  The pegs are stable and hold the model in place so that the base can move around without much fear of it all falling to pieces. Models fall into a space somewhere between traditional toys and decorations. Putting the pieces together gives a sense of creative completion and personal success to the model, making each one an accomplishment rather than just a purchase. Tedco’s 4D Vision series include highly detailed and impressive looking models of a number of animals. We aren’t sure where the fourth dimension comes in, though.

Users who expect a display model that may require some patience to put together will not be disappointed. It would be misleading to say that this model can be taken apart and put back together again multiple times. We found that putting it together once and leaving it on display is best, as trying to pull everything apart can damage the piece overtime. Because of this, we recommend this kit for children who understand that some things are meant to be created for decoration and display.
