Crystal Bricks

by Constructive Playthings
current stage2016-06-22

Know what's cooler than a building block castle? A building block castle made of crystal. A very satisfying alternative to Prism Blocks, these translucent bricks let light shine through in an array of colors. Clicking together, they pop back apart with enough ease that even two year olds can create and un-create without frustration.

Getting great feedback, these bricks are lovely on their own and magical when used on a light table. Fully compatible with Duplo blocks, many users like to mix and match the two, creating some really neat combinations of opaque and see-through bricks.

Detailed Review

Toy Description

Building bricks that connect together. Made of translucent, brightly colored plastic, these let light shine through.

Colors include: red, orange, yellow, green, blue, and purple.

This set includes 136 pieces.

Play

Build structures with these alone, or mix in with Duplo blocks.

Observations

Many users got these with the specific desire to use them on a light table, as their translucency makes for a beautiful event. Stacking these on top of one another will decrease the amount of light getting to the higher bricks, but we found that, on average, the bottom four to five bricks will be illuminated when used on a light table.

Though we were not at all happy with the Prism Blocks by ALEX Toys, we will say that the base plates they make work fine with these, and can add another colorful layer when used on a light table.

Using these without a light table is just fine, too. Users enjoyed playing with these all on their own.

Again, these are fully compatible with Duplo blocks, and we like mixing the two sets. Castles and buildings can have stained-glass-looking windows, and winter fortresses can look like they were made from snow and ice.

They arrive in a plastic bucket with a snap-on lid which works well as a reusable storage container.

Care

  • Wipe down with a damp cloth
  • Wash in warm, soapy water

Parts and Pieces

These are compatible with Duplo blocks, as well as the Prism base plates from ALEX Toys.

Concerns

May prove a choking hazard for children still tasting their world.

Manufacturer's Description
