Toy Description

Combining a child’s most common hobby- coloring- with a new learning experience.

Play

To play with this toy, a parent needs to put the coloring pages in the desk. To do this, take off the back and follow the directions to insert the coloring pages. Once the pages are in, put the back on and give it to the child. The child can click through to see what page they want to color and learn about, and then, once they start coloring, the desk will begin to teach. This is repeated with all of the coloring pages.

Observations

The LeapFrog Imagination Desk Deluxe Learning System has a 26 page coloring book, and using electronic templates, it will speak to your child about the different letter or number that they are coloring. Said to be a good educational toy that gives children a mind boost in imagination and creativity, the Imagination Desk is not expensive and encourages children to be independent in their learning.

While the child is coloring, the desk will talk to them and teach them about the specific letter or number they are on. It is a very interactive toy where children can combine a favorite pastime- coloring- with learning. However, our team did not find this system to be very educational. The recommended age is 4 and up, but children ages four and up already know the alphabet and their numbers, so having them color on pages with things that they already know is not helping them learn- they could probably learn more with their parents. We recommend this toy for children ages 2 and up, as they are then at the beginning of learning these concepts and the toy would be more appropriate. Although the template is electronic, the child still uses real crayons to color on the coloring sheet.

Care

Not recommended for use outside because it is electronic and wet surfaces or rain could ruin the toy

If the desk gets wet, dry off immediately

Parts and Pieces

The desk comes in one piece made of plastic. Crayons and a coloring book with sheets are also included.

Concerns

No big concerns have been reported, but we advise for a child to use this product before age 4 to hold their attention better, as there have been complaints that the recommended age is too old and gets boring for children these age because they already know the alphabet and their letters.
