Mega Bloks First Builders Big Building Bag, 80-Piece (Classic)
Build 'em up and knock 'em down! Mega Bloks delivers the classic block for tiny hands.

Toy Description

The Big Building Bag is filled with 80 pieces, including a stackable base with 4 wheels. Thin and lightweight, the blocks are made large, with extra long studs to help blocks balance together. Unlike other brands of blocks, such as Lego, these blocks don’t snap together, so much as they stack together. For instance, to be moved, blocks stacked together have to be picked up from the bottom set of blocks. Trying to grab the middle of the stack and lifting it will simply result in the blocks coming apart.

Mega Bloks offers two color themes for this set: Blue or Pink. The Blue bag has brightly colored blocks in a mix of red, green, yellow, blue, and light blue. The Pink bag has a mix of colors in dark pink, light pink, bright green, lavender, and white.

Play

Building blocks are an iconic children’s toy. While these don’t have any letters or numbers on them, they can be used to create almost any shape a child can think up. Forming dragons or towers, cars or rockets, children get to explore their own imaginative skills as they test the building limits of the blocks.

A wheeled base can be used to make moving structures, such as cars or moving fortresses.

Observations

Most reviewers were very pleased at how these blocks were received. Many reported children playing with these blocks for over an hour at a time, easily entertaining themselves.

Because the blocks only fit loosely together, they may fall over a little easier than the child would like. This did cause a little frustration, according to reviewers. A few users also reported the blocks fitting together less tightly as time went by. This was not an issue for the majority of users.

Very young children (around 1 year) may need to be shown how to put the blocks together, and may start out only stacking the blocks up two or three levels high. As the child grows, the blocks can take on more complicated structures. Of course, some children prefer knocking them down rather than building them up, so a tall but simple wall can be quite exciting.

Several users said that having two different colors themes to choose from made being able to tell which block belonged to which child much easier.

While we have noted that some users are upset that the Pink bag is about $7 more than the Blue bag, we would like to say that the manufacturer, Mega Bloks, sells both bags for the same price. It is Amazon that reduced the price of the Blue bag.

Care

Wipe off blocks with a damp cloth.

Blocks can be washed in warm water and mild soap.

Do not boil, or try to clean in a sanitizer. This can melt the plastic.

Not applicable. No additional parts are needed.

Concerns

A very small group of users reported that children were able to get one of the single studded blocks into their mouths. While none of the users reported their child actually choking on a block, as with all small toys, we recommend supervision of children who still like to taste-test small objects.
