Observations

Great toys fire the imagination, fuel creativity, require minimal adult supervision, and require few instructions. Plus-plus has this elegant simplicity.

The identical size and shaped pieces mean that no one single piece is required to build a particular structure. Unlike sets that include wheels or eyes, losing a few of these won’t actually change the total quality of the set. Hooray!

An incredible way to rev up the imagination, putting the small pieces together also engages fine motor skills, making this a great toy for children (or adults) who need to practice working with their fingers. Since the toys don't snap together, fingernails aren't in any risk of getting stuck or torn pulling pieces apart.

While instructions certainly aren’t needed, here is a link to the manufacturer’s website, laying out a number of plans. Ponies, cars, and buildings are just a few of the ideas that can be found. Shapes can be transformed from flat to curved. Even pencil holders hold their shape fairly well during use.

Textured slightly with a rubbery feel, this slight flexibility is what helps the pieces stick to one another. Since snapping into place like a LEGO isn’t the connection method, these are able to make curves and angles that would be otherwise limited or impossible for other building sets. However, that flexibility also means it might be difficult to create a 3 foot tall tower.

A hard surface may work best if trying to creature flat sheets, so pull out a cardboard box or cookie sheet to play on if sitting at a table doesn't seem appealing.

With 600 pieces, this set should occupy more than one child at a time. However, if a smaller set is more desireable, we've listed a few below, along with some other color assortments:
