Rubberized plastic pieces, identical in shape and size, interlock together. Pieces are small, only 20 mm (3/4 of an inch) long.
Colors for this set include: blue, green, red, yellow, purple, orange, brown, grey, white, and black.
This set contains 600 pieces, though other quantities and color schemes can be found below, in Observations.
Build 2D or 3D structures!
Great toys fire the imagination, fuel creativity, require minimal adult supervision, and require few instructions. Plus-plus has this elegant simplicity.
The identical size and shaped pieces mean that no one single piece is required to build a particular structure. Unlike sets that include wheels or eyes, losing a few of these won’t actually change the total quality of the set. Hooray!
An incredible way to rev up the imagination, putting the small pieces together also engages fine motor skills, making this a great toy for children (or adults) who need to practice working with their fingers. Since the toys don't snap together, fingernails aren't in any risk of getting stuck or torn pulling pieces apart.
While instructions certainly aren’t needed, here is a link to the manufacturer’s website, laying out a number of plans. Ponies, cars, and buildings are just a few of the ideas that can be found. Shapes can be transformed from flat to curved. Even pencil holders hold their shape fairly well during use.
Textured slightly with a rubbery feel, this slight flexibility is what helps the pieces stick to one another. Since snapping into place like a LEGO isn’t the connection method, these are able to make curves and angles that would be otherwise limited or impossible for other building sets. However, that flexibility also means it might be difficult to create a 3 foot tall tower.
A hard surface may work best if trying to creature flat sheets, so pull out a cardboard box or cookie sheet to play on if sitting at a table doesn't seem appealing.
With 600 pieces, this set should occupy more than one child at a time. However, if a smaller set is more desireable, we've listed a few below, along with some other color assortments:
600 Piece Neon Colors
600 Piece Pastel Colors
300 Piece Basic Colors
100 Piece Basic Colors
Still enjoyable, we found the 100 Piece Set to be just a bit small to really allow for much creative flow. We suggest getting the 300 Piece set as a minium.
Great for entertaining multiple kids at once (or multiple kids AND adults), this toy can help encourage discussion regarding building technique, and sharing. Classrooms and daycares would likely get a lot of mileage from this kit.
- Due to the small size of the pieces, we recommend swishing them around in some warm soapy water. Rinse, and let dry.
Parts and Pieces
This specific set is for 600 pieces, which we think is great for building numerous projects. However, other quantities and color schemes are listed in Observations.
As the pieces are small, this toy poses a choking hazard to young children still putting objects into their mouths.
