Detailed Review

Toy Description

The Sensory Ball Set consists of three distinct balls. The plush Crinkle Ball is covered with fabric, and has thin plastic material on the inside, making it sound like a plastic bag being scrunched up. The Blue Ball is made of a softer plastic, firm but not squishy, that is covered in small nubs, giving it texture. The Blue Ball also smells of vanilla. The Rattle Ball is made of hard plastic with another smaller plastic ball inside, with openings over the ball to let little hands grip it easily.

Play

The reviews for this toy were quite positive. Children enjoy chewing on the Blue Ball, making the Crinkle Ball make noise, and shaking the Rattle Ball.

While each child will respond differently to each ball, most of the reviews said children enjoyed playing with all three balls, but really focused in on one.

The vanilla smell of the Blue Ball encourages tasting and most likely, chewing, on this ball in particular.

Observation

Most reviewers expressed very positive experiences with the Sensory Set. Many did note that the balls do not always roll very well, especially the fabric Crinkle Ball, but most were grateful they did not have to worry about balls rolling about, and suddenly appearing underfoot.

Some mentioned that the Rattle Ball is heavy enough to hurt when a child is smacked in the head with it. This ball may not be appropriate for children who often throw toys.

A few reviewers did not enjoy the vanilla scent, while some said it was too faint.

Care

  • Wipe off the toys with a damp cloth. Do not submerge underwater, as the water could become trapped inside the Blue Ball (it has a tiny hole) or in the stuffing of the Crinkle Ball. Trapped water could result in mold.
  • Do not try to steam clean the toys in either a sanitizer or dishwasher. This has been reported to melt the toys.

Manufacturer's Description

The Sassy sensory ball set has three unique balls inspire all of baby's senses. One ball engages baby's sense of touch with its fabric textures and baby's vision with its bold colors and patterns. The next ball captures baby's sense of hearing with an easy-to-grasp hard plastic ball with a chime ball inside. The third ball is made of squeezable BPA-free plastic that has been scented to smell like vanilla, a calming scent that appeals to the baby's sense of taste. Appropriate for babies 6 plus months. From the very first day of life, babies are sensative to the overall melody and rhythm of spoken language. By two or three months, they can then apply these skills to all sounds, recognizing changes in tempo and rhythm. By eight months, babies can even keep track of pitch. Shake a ball to let baby hear the rattle inside; then shake a rhythm with it. You can even sing along! Show baby how to squeeze the fabric ball and hear it crinkle. Then give a ball to baby and let her try. 2011 Oppenheim Toy Portfolio Platinum Award and Snap Award.
