The Count ‘em Up popcorn set from Learning Resources comes with fifteen large, realistic looking popped popcorn kernels and five popcorn bowls. Each bowl has a number- either one, two, three, four or five, and that’s how many kernels can fit inside that bowl. Kids can match the number of popcorn kernels to the number on each bowl and work on recognizing numbers.
Number skills and counting practice is the goal with this toy, though many kids are fascinated with the large pieces of popcorn, and end up just playing pretend with them.
The Count ‘em Up popcorn kernels are big, making them easy for young kids to play with. Since they are made of hard plastic, they can be rinsed off with water and cleaned easily if they get dirty. They are also said to be very durable. Adults can step on them without leaving dents or smashing them. Feet will likely feel more affected by the encounter than the toy will.
As with other toys made by Learning Resources, these really are quite amazing to behold. The colors are vibrant, the toys themselves have a very solid feel, and they don't look cheap or flimsy in the least.
Some reviewers complained that there was nothing to store the toy in. The popcorn kernels can be stored in the popcorn buckets that are included. The buckets are all different sizes and can hold from one to five kernels. There are fifteen total popcorn kernels, so they can be stored by putting the correct number in the corresponding bucket.
- If the popcorn gets dirty, they can be rinsed off in the sink or wiped down with a wet cloth
- For storage, the popcorn pieces can be kept inside the bowls
