Play

Stack the logs together to make a variety of buildings. Create a whole village!

Observations

We’re not sure why this set is 699 pieces and not a full 700, but even without that one additional log, this set allows for several buildings to be made at a time.

The texture of these pieces seems a little nicer than that of brand name Lincoln Logs. Maybe the finish is thicker on the brand name, but these pieces have a more natural wooden feel to them, and a less shiny appearance. Each pieces is a slightly different color, which adds charm and some realistic depth to the overall appearance of the finished buildings.

All the pieces are made from wood. Unlike the brand name, there are no plastic pieces in this set. Users report being quite satisfied with the quality of the pieces. No mentions of splinters, a common concern for wooden toys.

Users report this brand fitting perfectly well with the brand name.

Though some users are unhappy with the seemingly high number of small pieces (short logs with only one slot), we used those to create negative spaces like doors and windows. We found that making solid shapes with the logs just isn’t nearly as fun or challenging as making structures that contain doors and windows. The small pieces came in very handy for this.

Users typically report children playing with this toy for over an hour at a time, and frequently seeking the toy out. Due to the low physical and high mental engagement of this toy, we found this to be a good way to wind-down in the evening or afternoon.

The large number of pieces in this set make it great for social play, as there are more than enough pieces to share between two children. Adults can also join in.

Problem solving, imaginative play, and fine motor skills are all engaged and improved by this toy.

The manufacturer recommends this toy for children ages 3 years and up, which we mostly agree with. We found that children over 13 may not have much enthusiasm for this toy as it is not quite as challenging as they may need. As with any toy with small parts, children who are still putting objects into their mouths should be supervised when playing with this set.

An additional storage container will most likely need to be used to keep the logs in. The cardboard box the set arrives in just isn’t durable enough to hold all the pieces once they have been separated. Initially, the pieces arrive wrapped in little plastic bags, but once they have been released, getting them all to fit into the box can be difficult.

Care

Wash wooden pieces in warm water and a mild soap
